New Years Eve procrastinators give generously to Goodwill

During the last few days of the year, Goodwill Industries of Denver typically receives a generous outpouring of donations from donors looking to make last-minute tax-deductable donations.  2011 was no exception with Goodwill taking in 550,000 pounds of donations on the final day of 2011 and more than 1 million pounds of donations throughout the holiday weekend.

Goodwill has dubbed the New Years Eve donation rush, Procrastinator’s Delight. For the organization it’s an all-hands-on-deck donation event designed to give procrastinators one last chance to get year-end tax credits for donated goods.

The Procrastinator’s Delight program yields more than a tax deduction. Revenues from both retail and financial donations support Goodwill’s career development programs for at-risk youth, struggling adults and individuals with disabilities.
